Looking for a quick (15 min) simulation I can run with 10 groups of 12 people (approx) to illustrate Lean principles, focusing on waste elimination to improve processes. Have searched the internet and most simulations are complex or very time consuming. I need a high level simulation simply to introduce Lean Thinking to the participants.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I've seen this work well. Set up a manufacturing process with people playing steps in the process. Run the process for 3 minutes and tally up the result which should be how many perfect products get to the customer.
Brainstorm ways to improve the process and then run it again and measure results. You can do this a third time if you have time. Point out how the proces was improved and how it relates to lean |

I have found that it's easier to think up and create introductory, high-level yet still interactive learning experiences when I know 1)exactly why it has to be high-level and 2) what the stakeholders hope to accomplish by addressing it only at a high level.

Do you know about the Lego Exercise? It focuses on the elimination of waste and single piece flow and is a good exercise to conduct in a classroom setting.
You can find information on the internet or I can share what I have on it. I've only seen it one time. It's really amazing. |

Micde,
I have used a simple activity for years with great success. Not at all original, just modified over time to meet client needs. Nice thing about it is it is easy to set-up and run, is fun, and provides reference point/common experience for all follow-on conversations. Anyone know how to attach WORD or pdf file here? Otherwise, send me a PM with email address (don't post your email address on this public board). |
