I work for a privately-held manufacturing company. We are re-evaluating our technical training system, and are quite interested in learning what other manufacturing companies are using as best pratices for developing technical skills for machine operators. We currently have a robust facilitated self-study program in place that includes study guides, videos, OJT checklists, and online troublshooting guides. And now we are exploring if there is a better, faster way to get machine technicians the skills they need to impact performance.

Hi Diane:

It would appear you have a robust training program. I am curious why you think the system can be improved. Not knowing that, I am guessing you should focus on the transfer of training. This would include: mentoring, assignment of the use or practice of skills soon after training and performance expectations to implement the training with feedback and incentives.

Good Luck;

Cj

Hi Diane,

I recommend that you investigate TWI - Job Instruction. You can check out TWI - JI here: http://www.twi-institute.com/

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

Hi Diane,
We work with a lot of manufacturers, including most of the really large ones. Take a look at the free eLearning "How To" case study that was done with NAVISTAR and I think you will get some really good ideas for your program.
Sincerely,
Jack
