Have any of you used Moodle in your organization? If you have, I'm interested in any feedback about it, and also have you linked up with any of the Moodle partners to help you maintain your Moodle site?
Thank you! Joan |

Joan:
Where are you wanting to go with this question? Are you looking to implement Moodle? If so, what are you comparing Moodle to? Gartner has been suggesting since 2007 that organizations consider open source software (OSS) as an alternative to commercial software--this is a nod to the quality of OSS and the large base of users and developers. I have used Moodle, and still do. I have not had implementations that reached a scale that required outside partners to maintain. I have always found Moodle easy to maintain and like all the modules that can be added. My one complaint is the difficulty in modifying templates (themes) in Moodle. |

Hi, we have implemented over 40 Moodles now for clients from Nikon to McDonald's. It is a great LMS and proving very popular. According to the Elearning Guild it is the most used LMS in the US.
Dave, happy to share some of our themes with you, we find you can fairly much make Moodle look however you want and certainly make it on brand for corporate clients. One of our latest Moodle themes is here http://dev.kineomoodle.com/gosh/ |

Steve, that's great. I have seen lots of posts along the lines of the lines of "moodle is great but ugly". This very much belies that.

John:
I too have heard gripes against Moodle over the years--but that does not change the popularity it has. To me it is like the Mac vs PC or Coke vs Pepsi views--people take a very entrenched position based on what they like. Technical merits are rarely the argument against Moodle, it is the look and feel. Yet, having used other LMS systems and even been a party to major enhancements of some, I rarely hear complaints about the stability, sys admin costs, hardware footprint, etc. Having said that, it is still important to know how an LMS will be used in an organization, what sys admin skills exists, existing course content, and user expectations before selecting any LMS (or any software for that matter) for use in an organization. Steve, I will take you up on that offer. Look for an e-mail from me. |
