We're designing a train the trainer program to help On-the-Job trainers understand their responsibilities, expectations, etc. I'm looking for content ideas. Does anybody have experience developing this?

Your library and bookstore are brimming with books on this topic. What are your key desired outcomes for the training and I'll try to recommend particular books...

I developed a Train the OJT Trainer course for technical workers. The course was customized for a specific industry and operation but covers what I believe are pertinent issues such as adult learning styles, steps for OJT training, mentoring, working with difficult people, company philosophy etc. The content should be adjusted to best fit the industry, training time, method and any other specific parameters.

TPrewitt,

I wrote a Facilitator's Guide - "Train-the-Trainer: On-the-Job Training Skills Workshop" specifically for On-the-Job trainers. The Facilitator's Guide contains all the training modules, transparencies, handouts, and a CD with everything you will need. Also, the Guide is highly customizable to your particular needs. The Facilitator's Guide is accompanied by the Trainer Handbook, again customizable, which contains all the forms, evaluation materials, hints and tips, etc - everything OJT trainers need. Both the Facilitator's Guide and Trainer Handbook may be used as stand alones or may be used together with my book for OJT - "Training On the Job" published by ASTD Press). All three - "Training On the Job," the "Trainer Handbook" and Facilitator's Guide are cross-referenced should you decide to use all three in your program. You can get information on all three and/or purchase any one or all three (at a discount) from my web site - www.teamojt.com.
