Don't know about behavioral interviewing, but if I had to replace a guy with 30 yrs expereince some questions I'd ask include:

1) What programs have you delivered?

2) What programs have you created? (many trainers can't create)

3) How do you define a good training program?

4) What kind of learning activities have you created? Share with me some you are proud of.

5) If you rec'd a $5k 'top employee award' today, what would you use the money for? I know it's a crazy question, but you get an insight into what people value. I had one candidate say, "I'd buy training books." Yeah, right. Next candidate.

My interviews usually last 2+ hrs. I find people can maintain a front for 45 mins. After that you get more stuff. I know it's a lot of time, but you'll be spending a lot more time if you make a hiring mistake.

As part of the interview process have the candidate come prepared to deliver a 10 minute presentation on a relevant topic or a topic of their choice. This will give you an opportunity to see them live.

Please help! I have an interview this Friday 9/25/09 at a large healthcare system for a Training Specialist position. Along with the interview I will be asked to provide a training demo. I will be given a list of topics to choose from, have 5 minutes to prepare, and have 5 minutes to deliver the training.

If you were the hiring manager, what would you most want to see a candidate effectively demonstrate in this demo that would put the candidate at the top of the list?

Thank you kindly for your time and assistance!!
