To keep up with and ahead in your line of country you need a context. Ask,what does my present organization make,serve or does and follow closely that industry. Also identify your strengths and interests, follow the current thinking there. Attend meetings, network, read on a consistant basis. You really can't cherry pick or read tea leaves. Trends that will lead to future skills and new approaches are already happening.

I recently receivied a Training and Development Certification from a local university in my area. A lot of them offer these types of programs and many companies will pay for it. You should look it that.

The real value of an alphabet soup of credentials following your name is if their acquisition actually contribute to your skills and knowledge in a meaningful way.

The people you want to work for are those who value talent and experience. Focus on those two and you will be fine.
