One that I use and is always successful is:

Hold a nickel and a dime; walk to participant and say, "Jenny's mother has three daughters. First one's name is dime, second one's name is nickel, third one's name is...." (While you're saying "dime" and "nickel", place the coins in the participant's hand.

Wait for a response. The common responses are: penny, quarter, dollar, I don't know.

Take the dime and nickel, walk to another participant and do the same. Repeat the process until someone gets it or until everyone is frustrated by not getting it.

The answer: Jenny.

I use this one. I start by telling them there is a prize for the person who answers it correctly. The competitive spirit gets going. Then I say, "You are a bus driver. At the first stop 10 people get on. At the second stop 6 people get on and 4 get off. At the 3rd stop 2 people get on and 7 get off. At the 4th stop ............ "

You can go as long as you like. I usually stop after 4 stops. The learners are usually busy trying to add / subtract things. Then I end by saying, "And now the important question. What's the name of the bus driver?" Very few get the answer. Answer = "You" or their name.

Another one I used, but I can only remember 1/2 of it. I need help from others out there happens to do with a cow. It goes something like. "What is ice cream made out of?" Answer: milk. "What do babies drink?" Answer: milk. "What do cows drink?" Normally they will say "milk." Again, can't remember how to set it up completely. Just remember the punch line, "What do cows drink?"

Answer: They didn't play each other.

If a plane crashes on the exact border between two countries, would unidentified survivors be buried in the country they were traveling to or the country they were traveling from?

Answer: You wouldn't bury survivors.

If you go to bed at 8 o'clock at night and set your wind up alarm to go off at 9 o'clock the next morning, how many hours of sleep would you get?
