I'm organizing a 4 day training program for managers in my organization and I am looking for games and/or challenges that apply to managers. Any ideas?

Thanks,
CT

Cristel... appropriate design calls for knowing the desired outcomes (aka objectives) for this event. I'm not clear how or why one would just take a "game for managers" and then attempt to make it fit into an event. I believe that it is actions like that which perpetuate the perception that we trainers and instructional designers are a waste of company resources.

Begin with the end in mind. What should people get out of participating in this activity?

Hello LoveLearning,

Thanks for that reminder. I meant to include in my message above that we are looking to develop their "business development" competency. So I am looking for a simulation/game or some kind of business development training that will help them develop this skill.

I would look at a business simulation exercise. They would be a fit if you're looking to enhance strategic thinking, improve business acumen, and increase financial skills. We have several available. Check out www.PriSim.com.

"looking for a simulation/game or some kind of business development training that will help them develop this skill"...

I think the key is to look to the 20% that drives the 80% of success in the area and train to it.

At each business, a small fraction of the activities drives profitable business development (or conversely, a small fraction of mistakes made by intelligent, talented employees can kill the deal).

Find these issues and package them into a scenarios that the trainees must deal with (make them run "the gauntlet" in a role play, case study, simulation/scenario of some sort).

It's easy to design it to be engaging, and trainees will be very appreciative of practicing and correcting issues without having dollars tied to it- and debriefing lessons learned will make it back to where it will mean dollars to the organization.

If folks physically sweat during the activity because of the reality of the application- you have absolutely hit the sweet spot Smiler
