Would it work for your company to use a paperless option for your notebook? Do your managers spend most of their time in front of a computer?

I ask because, years ago when I was with Borders, they had something they called a "Browser" which was like a manual but it could be updated whenever necessary. All you had to do was e-mail those affected to go back to the browser and look up the new policy, and you didn't have to worry about getting new paper into binders, people losing their binders, etc.

I don't know who was the original vendor on the software or if it would meet your purposes but it just always seemed so easy to me. It kept policy information current and also made sure out of date information wouldn't be laying around to cause confusion down the line.

Good luck!

I thought I would share an update. I am almost done with a first draft of the notebook. Know what's really crazy - the manager's already have almost all of this information in a varity of different places...so really this is a matter of bringing it altogether in one place! I was surprised I was able to put together a draft in a relatively short time. I will have to have it proofread and all, but still it's almost there.

Then Matt, I'm going to try to go paperless with it and put it on our extranet. That would make future updates and all very simple. Right now they are updating/upgrading/upping in general our extranet and not taking any extra projects as far as i know - so it might be a bit, but that will give it time to go thorough the proofing stages!

I'm nervous about that only because I took the "pretty" out of it - fancy borders, colored text and my manager loves that kind of stuff. I'm hoping she'll see that it's not about being a coloring book, but about the content...and now I am going back to my supervisors to find out what they want to spend time in a classroom on. I don't need to read the book to them, but some sections will naturally follow with a classroom piece I think and I want to see if we are lined up....

I am scheduling a meeting with three of them next week! Thank you all for your wonderful help on this project. Especially Lauren - if you see this, you got the "ball rolling" so to speak.

Cyndi it sounds like you have done a great job pulling all the pieces together and sounds similar to what we have going on in our organization. We have a great deal of material for our managers/supervisors in scattered locations and we have been working to try and pull material together for them in one location - would like to go paperless and store on our intranet for easy updates. Thanks for sharing your ideas and update on the project. Sierra I would also like to see your table of contents as it would help with our organization of topics - jbaldwin@cffc.com
Thanks
