Hi,
I would like to know if Training Dept. can apply Max and Mini training hours per employee! Thanks |

I've never heard of max training hrs. Whoever needs training to do their job should get it. Sounds like a supervisory issue if people are taking too many courses?
Anyway, for minimum hrs, I suggest that every employee have a yearly development goal that includes time away from the job to sharpen the saw. It could be training, coaching, observing, special projects,.... The min would likely depend on the job: admin, line staff, supervisor, technical / non-technical, professional, etc. Some people are against setting mins hrs as the focus is on quantity vs quality, but I haven't found too many organisations that follow-up on training. For most orgs, if you don't have a min, then they put training on the back-burner. |

No, for many of the same reasons and more as previously described.

We do not apply max, but do apply min, but not in terms of hours.
I agree with the argument of min hours quickly turns into a measure of questionable quality like "over a billion burgers served"- doesn't say anything more than throughput. For each job, we do set the baseline training requirements and strict timeline in which it is to be acheived. We had experimented with "a minimum of X hours in 'elective' training per Y time period", but it quickly became apparent that it turned into a pencil-whipping exercise of getting a grand total in a box versus getting quality training solutions to fulfill actual needs. Strongly urge against this. David Glow dglow@tampabay.rr.com |
