I am interesting in the type of training other Trainers provide to their law firms. Currently, we offer Word, Excel, etc. to secretaries & legal assistants. The trend seems to be that more & more are moving into a legal assistant position instead of secretary positons. We just introduced a new class to management from David Allen's book, "Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress Free Productivity" and it was well received. Now the staff who are enrolled in our law firm "university" will receive a credit for attending. I have an idea to do something similar, perhaps The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Legal Assistants... any ideas or highlights from what you all are doing that is new? Thanks in advance for your comments. I am not quite at 2 months yet here, so the legal world from academia is still a transition. Lillie |

Hi Pinky,
So we are both in the same boat it sounds like. My struggle at the moment is trying to figure out what is going to be relevant to the legal audience. I have been called upon by attorneys for specific questions on using Document Management systems and Remote Connections. Other than that, I am teaching secretaries MS Office applications. It is a fine line to walk between wanting to implement something new and determining what the needs are. It is almost like marketing yourself so that you show your value. If all I do is teach the applications, that is something Info. Systems could do. Any thoughts about your experiences as a novice trainer at a law firm? Thanks in advance as these conversations really help. Lillie

Hello Everyone...
I'm an executive job recruiter and I have been having a real tough time searching for a IT Trainer for one of the Top Law Firms in NJ (located in North Jersey)... They are looking for someone who has been training in the legal environment. Specific applications aren't important, other then being open to working the help desk. The firm is looking to pay $60K plus benefits and it is a perm position. Email me your updated resume if you are interested... matthew.collins@glenmontgroup.com BEST REGARDS |
