I was researching MindMap software and as with any software... there's a ton of it out there. I don't need anything too complex, but I would like the ability to convert the mind maps into a Word format (outlines, gant charts, etc.)

Any recommendations would be appreciated... thanks so much!

Hi

One of the best in the market is Mindjet Mind Manager. They are known for integration with Office, so if you are interested in import, export and live linking to word, excel and outlook, this is the best option you can probably find. Third party tools also exist to extend it, such as using Gantt charts or other views.

In contrast there is another really used mind map tool, called Openmind 2. This is also very powerful with more emphasis on time charts and artistic diagrams. The unique feature of this tool is that the data can be presented in many "views" as opposed to be converted. In other words you can set up a mind map and then "view" it as a Gantt chart, or as time line, or as a tree view and so on. Any modifications performed in a view, replicates to the main data which means all other views are updated.

This was of course a bit more technical comparison, if you are interested in general mind mapping, both software are capable, so its up to you choose which style you prefer.

Good luck with your mind map hunting.

I have found the opensource FreeMind to be a great, simple tool. I'm not sure that it will output to gantt, but for basic mind mapping, I really think it is great! Do get more information do a search for FreeMind in Wikipedia.
