Ruth Clark's books are very good. I recommend these two books:

Efficiency In Learning
Developing Technical Training

Hi JJ:

I will recommend Instructional Design, Implications from Cognitive Science by West, Farmer and Wolff. (ISBN 0-13-488578-3).

The book has great explanations and a designer’s guide for the following areas:

Chunking
Frames Type 1 & 2
Concept Mapping
Advanced Organizers
Metaphor, Analogy and Simile
Rehearsal
Imagery
Mnemonics

Enjoy!

Your Memory: How It Works and How to Improve It by Kenneth L. Higbee is an excellent resource.
