We received a brochure from Rockhurst University for a Trainer's Creativity Camp that sounds very useful, but the dates are wrong for us. But we started thinking that we'd like to attend something like this two-day workshop as a team.
Our team consists of a Training Manager who trains, a trainer and an instructional designer. We need to re-evaluate and start doing some online training (which I have done before) but need some help thinking how to balance that with traditional training in this organization. Our training is for clients learning to use our software. Our in-house training is limited. Any ideas for training for us? Which organizations do the best job in Train the Trainer workshops? Thanks. |

Langevin does a pretty good job...but that doesn't address the pieces you'll need to put together to ensure you have a well-rounded team for online learning development, deployment and maintenance (aka a software development team).

This sounds a little like you might be putting the cart before the horse. It seems that a decision has already been made to do e-learning - before having taken the time to do an analysis or "to re-evaluate." As is often suggested by contributors to this forum, the analysis will tell you if you need to do e-learning and if so, where, when, why, and what. A train-the-trainer workshop seems inappropriate for what you need to do. Why not take a workshop focusing on identifying performance gaps and learning needs, or hire a consultant to help you do that. Then focus on how you plan to do it.

I took the Creativity Camp some years ago and although it was very good, it would not fill the need that you indicated.
I took the Train the Trainer ceertificate course at the "Training" conference a couple of years ago and it was excellent. I believe they have one every year, as well as one on e-learning. That conference is a way off in the spring of 2009 but I think they are doing one this fall as well. This may even be an online program, got a flyer some time back. Check their website www.traningmag.com. Jo |

What did you get out of the Creativity Camp? Our manager is mostly a trainer, and he'd just like some tips to make our training more dynamic. Our other trainer is young and hasn't actually trained for us yet, and we'd like to let him get some tips and training to jump-start him. I have been a trainer, a university teacher and an instructional designer before, and was hired here to help develop online training, but our manager, frankly, is afraid it will compete with what he does. We have to figure out how to make our online training pay and add to our present offerings, not detract from them. I think what he's looking for is just a place we can get inspired and spend some time together as a team talking about what direction we should go. What I'm looking for is something to inspire him to try to give online training a chance. The demand is out there. Many of our clients and business analysts are begging for it. He's just afraid. Maybe whatever training we select won't solve all of our problems, but it might open us up to some new directions. |
