Vineyard,

Based on your second post, I suggest looking at the Training Magazine conference and pre-conference sessions if your company can pay for all three of you to go.

You get the exposure to what the industry is doing, which may pry your manager loose from his reluctance. You will learn so much and have an opportunity to be exposed to lots of things.

The new trainer can attend a pre-conf session on training fundamentals while perhaps you two go to something on online learning.

By online, do you mean CBTs or live virtual classroom? For live, virtual classroom consider having the team take one or more of the classes offered by InSync Training. They are excellent. Jennifer Hofmann and Kassy LaBorie speak at the Training Conference too.

My website www.SeminarInformation.com has a whole bunch of team building seminars listed. Just put the keyword team in the keyword box and see what is out there. We have complete outlines so you can compare and contrast. Hope this helps a bit.

get inspired and spend some time together as a team talking about what direction we should go. What I'm looking for is something to inspire him to try to give online training a chance.

Employed correctly, e-learning can deliver some of the information (basics) offline so you spend more time in the instructor-led events that really need an instructor.

Let's face it, any amount of time introducing a sales model, process, tactics in live training takes time away from applying those skills (just an example- applies to many scenarios). If you introduce these concepts before the live learning event, you use the trainer's time to clarify, dive deeper, and really get into the application and nuances of the skills (something they excel at over the computer).

I've seen this employed at Universities and Corporations, and when done correctly, the trainers really appreciate the removal of the "talking head" portions of their job that gets repetative and stale, and focuses it on the special interactive, mentoring, "expert/rockstar" issues that trainers love.

Hope that helps gets some ideas started.
