-What would be the best course to start of with to make myself more marketable? Consider me a Novice- what would be the first course you can recommend to give me some certification and knowledge? -After I attend these course/seminars will it make me more marketable, given that even though I have the theoretical knowledge what about the practical experience? Please help! I am so frustrated. I do get fantastic companies contacting me e.g Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch,MTV,Metroplus etc. I need to get a job. kasaer@gmail.com |

Its curious that you are contacted by companies and then you don;t get the job. Given that job seeking is somewhat of a numbers game. I would look past ID/WBT
situation which can be fixed, as you suggested, they KNOW you don't have these formalized certifications. Either you do a poor job of convincing them of your knowledge in these areas or they see or hear something at the interview that turns them off. How is your preparation? How is your questioning? Your job is to sell to needs. Nero |

Nero, your words are a bit harsh, but understand where you are coming from. I have just started with interviewing in January. I am a professional and conduct myself well at the same time I do my research prior to going. I guess because of NY being such a competitive city I have the experience as a Trainer(international)and they are mainly looking for someone with e-learning and ISD experience. As I mentioned I have learned most things from what I have been taught and the tech part I taught myself. Hence me trying to do a little project for my interview with MTV using captivate.
So what do you recommend Nero? |

A few things:
1. You appear to be discounting a major strength and therefore selling point. You know how to learn. 2. By what you say you are hardly a rookie. Remember at your level you may assume if they call you for an interview they are pretty sure that you can technically do the job skill wise etc. They are looking for FIT. Do you fit in with our organization the way we do things around here ??? 3. With regards to e-learning etc. If you don't have a paper to wave in their face on a particular topic . You then must make the case thru/by your experience to fit their needs. What in my background of experience can fit what they want. Nero |

Everything you need to know about ISD or e-learning you can pick up yourself by reading and doing your own research. There is nothing difficult about either one. Most people conducting the interviewing don't know what they are doing in the first place - most could not give you a good definition of either one. Do a little reading and present yourself with confidence. You'll get a job. As Nero said, interviewing is a numbers game.
To convince yourself that you are more than capable of getting the job, read the many posts here that are written by people who have already gotten the job, but then don't know what to do. It happens all the time. So, don't worry so much about having the "right" credentials. Good luck! When you get the job, write and let us know. |
