I realize this is a pretty lightweight topic(!) I am wondering if anyone has done anything creative with name tents for participants - maybe some cool quotes about learning on the side that faces them?!
This may sound corny, but I randomly ask questions and give out gold star stickers that the participants display on the name tents. It's cheesy but fun and it sparks a little friendly competition which I think increases retention!
Hello In the past I have had all sorts of craft materials laid out, glitter, colored paper, sparkly pens, colored cotton wool etc. and asked people to decorate their own, to reflect their personality. This makes a fun (maybe messy!) icebreaker too!

I use information, quotes and statistics around the topic. For example, if I was doing a class on fruit (no this isn't an actual class we do) I would have name tents with different statitstics or quotes on different types of fruit on it. Then at the beginning of the class I make everyone aware of them and have them read whatever quote is on their card. Then I tell them that if during teh class they feel like what is on their card is relevant or would be useful to the class, raise their hands and share. I give out a candy bar when they participate.
It isn't hard to set up on the computer either. Just put everything in one document and then print all at once.
If you have a large class and some people may have the same information on thier cards - that is okay. It may even spark some competition.

Thanks for those ideas! Lucy, I had to smile when you wrote about the craft materials - I'm always amazed at how excited adults get about using "Smelly Markers" to write their names with!
