Hello - what are the industry standards on training development - how long does it take to develop a full day and a half day training program?

There are far too many variables involved in that question to be able to make a definite judgement.

It is said that it takes 1 day to write 1 hours training, which would make your 12 hours course take 12 days to write.

However, I've never really agreed with the statement, as different courses take different amounts of time to write.

It would also be nice to know why this information is important to you.

I agree also, there are so many variables. For example: Here are some considerations:
1. Target audience and competency levels (should also mention motivation to learn)
2. Resources available (i.e. are there subject matters experts available?)
3. Training standards--how important are they to meet? (or is it lip service)
4. How much work has already been accomplished? (i.e. task analysis, need for the training, identification of learning objectives)
There are so many other variables, these are just a few.

While knowing the actual time to development is important, there are some things that you can do to minimize the time.

1. Develop templates and standards for materials
2. Institute a formal design process
3. Go to pilot early (put your first drafts in front of the end users to test them out and get feedback)
4. Don't worry about how pretty it looks until the final draft.

There's also a difference in the time it takes a designer to build a course and how long it takes to have a course ready to launch. If you put in adequate reviews, you can expect between 2 to 4 weeks just for the reviews.

Corp Trainere,

Echo Trainer Bubble, why is this important? Nevertheless, if you have command of your material
and a wealth of experience you can do it "on the fly". Your results for a mere half/full day will be the same and odds on better.
