Hello out here in cyber space.
I have recently been promoted in my company to a Training Design and Developer. My first project I got "to my horror" to develop is Training the Project Management team on what Change Management is and how to implement it. The thing is that it is not part of our culture and is seen as time consuming, a waste etc. I would like to ask help on two issues as I am only starting to research it with quite a tight deadline: 1)a good and rather short book on change management, games to play, structure etc. Heck I don't even know what I need and what to ask for?! 2) If you want to make a 2-3 day session as interactive as possible and link Change Management the entire session back to the real workplace in a Project Mng environment. What elements would you suggest I include on the programme? It would be great if someone has the time to start a discussion and help with some advice on question 2 question 2. I don't want to just copy and paste from other people's material but can certainly help with some advice from experienced Developers. Thanking you in advance, Dauwbie Dauwbie New to Design and Development Dauwbie New to Design and Development |

I think I know the answer to this, but you need to define what you mean by "change management" before this group can help. There are two basic meanings for "change management": 1) a process, with or without tools, to document how documents, software, hardware designs or even training programs change, and 2) the process of helping employees deal with organizational change. I'm guessing you mean the former.
You might be able to find some games/activities for your #2. NASAGA might have some resources. You might also try google. There was also a thread here about a "Short Change Management Exercise", but I noted that at least in the beginning it seemed to focus on organizational change (and not, as I guessed on first reading the title, exercises for managing short changing as at a cash register). --john |

Thank you for your reply Traveler!
Your guess is right, it is Change Management (CM) with CM tools. It is going to be used when the company roll out a new project or products. Project managers and Business Annalist's would have to be the Change Agents during the process, drafting comms, identifying Sponsors and Stakeholders etc. I am pretty new to it, I have documentation on the theory and the tools. I dont want to just dive in and start developing around the processes etc. I want to connect it to the "I", link it to your personal life, then the team then the organization. I have started reading up on the Theory of Appreciative Inquiry, Systems Thinking and The Ladder Of Inference. The above three however are very theoretical with no "how to" attached to it. I have a tight deadline, not enough to source and read books on all the theories and then think of ways to implement them. Ok, I'm off to read some more theory on it! Thanking you in advance, Dauwbie This message has been edited. Last edited by: Dauwbie, Dauwbie New to Design and Development |

I think the key for something like this is to focus on the learners' WIIFM (What's In It For Me). Maybe you could look at an exercise that emphasizes what can happen if people cannot or do not use the CM tools effectively. One example might be the impact of not being able to back out of a broken system. Another might be using CM tools to support old versions.
