I'm not sure if I've put this in the right forum, but I'm hoping you will forgive me if I didn't. I am working on a supervisory training series for our managers and I want to be able to provide them with a manager's notebook of sorts. It would include information on how to "do the budget," how to approve training, what to do if an employee is injured at work, what to do with new employees. I really want it to be an easy reference guide - and something that they will think to look in when they need it.
I just can't figure out what it should look like or for sure what topics to include. I'm sure I'm not the first person to ever think of creating this and I'm hoping someone has one that they might be able to give me some guidance.
Would anyone be willing to share ideas, copies, or thoughts on this with me?
If you truly want them to have something useful that they'll turn back to when they need it, have them create it as an on-going project throughout the course.
I'm thinking just create a 3-ring binder that they can add to in the future if need be.
Sections might include Budgeting, Evacuation Procedures, Dress Code, Personnel Issues with Sub-sections like Absenteeism, Injuries, Performance Appraisals, etc.
If it's a 3-ring binder, you can create new sections as they come up (new personnel policies) and ask them to insert them under the XXX tab.
I think a three ring binder is perfect. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is what do I start with for topics? So if I start with a Orienting a new employee, disciplinary process, Injury at work, Sexual Harassment, Workplace Violence, Training approval process, hiring process...I just don't know what topics to "start with in there." Then I could provide them the materials that are very editable. I guess I'm looking for suggestions of what topics to include.
The topics you mentioned sound perfect. Are you afraid that they are are too broad? Your table of contents can show exactly what is covered under "Hiring Process" or you could literally have each page with Step 1 (i.e. copy resume and forward to HR), Step 2 (i.e. call HR to schedule interview and confirm time), Step 3...
