Hello,
I am seeking out recommendations for an introductory icebreaker to be faciltiated in approximately 10 minutes with a group of 25 administrative assistants at their monthly meeting. This is a newer group meeting together so any recommendations for a "getting to know you" quick hit are greatly appreciated!

My favorite quick ice breaker to use when you are pressed for time is "what was your first..." Because almost everyone enjoys music, I like to ask participants to introduce themselves with their names and the very first concert they ever went too. This can relax the atmosphere as well as bring some laughter as there are a lot of embarrassing first concerts out there as well as surprisingly similar first concerts.

I am a music lover so this works for me and how I set the tone, if this does not appeal to you, you can always substitute concert for another first that you are more comfortable with. It also works well as a theme if the training takes many breaks where participants come back and name another "first." Hope this helps.

Sarah

There are many exercises and variations available, I will include the following which gets people to talk and probe a bit deeper and understand each other more.

You need one sheet of paper for each participant. Write down a work related question on each paper and fold it. Example questions include:

-What was the funniest thing that has ever happened to you at work?
-What was your most embarrassing moment at work?
-Why do you like working in this company?
-Who is your favourite manager/boss and why?

Place the folded question papers in a container or bowl and ask each participant to pick one randomly.

Delegates have to read the questions aloud to the group. Each participant has one minute to share his or her story with the group.

You can find many more free exercises and training resources similar to the above.

Thanks to all for the responses! I will be using several of the mini icebreaker activities at upcoming meetings.
