I have just resently been contacted by Resource Associates. I've done research on their website but I was wonder what you all thought about it. It sounds too good to be true and I'm sure it's going to be a major investment on my part. What do you all know?
It's an interesting business plan as far as I understanded it. They call their consultants "affiliates". You go to their company for an intial training seminar. There is some kind of training there and you decide if you want to become one of their affliliates, which I assume is some kind of major investment because they don't let you make a decision right away. Then they give you training and give you consulting jobs as they come into the company. I'm just wondering if someone out in our ASTD family has had some kind of experience with them. They said they got my name because I applied for a job from the ASTD Job Bank, but I don't remember doing that.
I wanted to give anyone who may read this post an update on my research on Resource Associates. I found out through a Google search that there is a 26K to 36K investment in getting an affilation. When I mentioned it to my recruiter, he was actually mad I had done that much research. While my first experience he was all warm and receptive, he turned cold and snippity when I asked him about he investment. That in of itself speaks volumes to me. I'm glad I didn't go farther with them and attend their mutual evaluation and I would recommend all who may be considering it to make sure they know what they are getting into. I give Research Associates a 0 on a scale of 1-10.
Sounds like a franchise, but with the added annoyance of them not being up-front about it. Sorry you had a bad experience. I treat unsolicited contacts like that as spam - if I don't know the company at all and none of my colleagues have ever heard of the company either, it's just spam and it goes directly into the circular file.
