We have an executive who is trying to plan a meeting and is really, really set on a particular group activity he participated in many years ago. I have been searching up and down and can't seem to find it. We've pitched other ideas and he keeps coming back to this activity he did and really wants to find it (or should I say, wants us to find it).

Do you know where I might find this one or have you ever heard of it?

The only details he can recall are that they were each given envelopes with colored paper or strips of some sort inside. The colors either had assigned point values or possibly in combinations had values (like 2 blue & 1 green = 50 points or 3 reds = 25 points). The goal is to trade colors and somehow a winner is determined as the one with the most points (maybe after a certain amount or time or certain amount of trades?). Then he recalled that the winner got to make rules for the next round.

His admin has been feeding me information on what he has told her but off of that, I have hit a dead end. I'm trying to get time with him in a couple weeks to hopefully get more information or to find out what it was about this activity that he liked so much so maybe we can find a similar one or one that gets the same outcome. Until then, I'm really trying to find what he is talking about.

Why not simply ask: "What do you want people to accomplish? What is your desired outcome?" Then you can explain that knowing the goal will help you identify appropriate solutions - and possibly even find this activity he is talking about.

That will be the goal of my meeting with him if his Admin can get me on his calendar. She has been the one talking to him and then trying to communicate his goals and objectives back to me and my team. Off of what she said, we started offering some suggestions (because we couldn't find the exact one he was looking for) but he is still really pushing for this particular one.

Time to march past the gatekeeper...

If this guy doesn't have enough respect for you and your time to communicate with you himself, I would forget it. If he really wants this, he will seek you out.
