Hello,
I inherited 200 pages of software documentation from a new instructional designer. I am aware of Info-mapping and took the training for it. I'd appreciate connecting with people who have created instructions for a sequence of screens that contain alternate paths. My concern is communicating the simplest path while informing the reader--at the right time--of the options found at different points along the simple path that can go in their own directions. I need to figure out rules for my numbering scheme when on step 3 there is an alternative path and on step 7 there is another alternate path. And I checked, I'm locked into the constraint of using paper instead of hyperlinks for this... Is there a formal community--like the technical writers institute or something that specializes in this? |

This seems like a job for a technical writer, not an instructional designer. (Why do so many instructional designers insist on writing software documentation????) You will find people through - The Society for Technical Communication (STC).
