As a business undergrad, an MEd, an employee of a financial services institution using metrics for all decisions, and a spouse of an MBA, I share your concern.

Seems that in all the management training I have seen, and the actual metrics employed in managing assets of a business, the actual analytics of managing people are not covered adequately. This is scary when you look at the value delivered to the organization based on it's people versus any other asset in the organization.

Frankly, I think this is why leadership development is a hot topic currently. Folks are finding the traditional management training is fairly good for straightforward management techniques and analytics, but leadership has a bit more vision and intuition involved (IMO). I feel this is an evolving area, and excited that the right questions are being asked finally. Maybe we'll discover that gap that differs between directing folks in what they need to do and inspiring folks to reach beyond.
