Hi,

I am using Captivate 3 and Articulate v5 with SumTotal 7.6

I am fairly new to the e-learning game and had some questions concerning SCORM. We recently went with SumTotal and are not live yet. I have read with past versions of Captivate and SumTotal, that you have to trick Captivate to report correctly in SumTotal. I'm not sure if this is still the case with the versions I have. I was wondering if anyone had documents or instructions on publish settings for Captivate 3 and Articulate v5 so that it reports correctly with SumTotal(7.6). Also if I published courses that did not include any quiz questions and just wanted to measure how many times the course was viewed can SumTotal do this on it's own? If so for these particular courses I probably won't need to publish with SCORM settings..right? However, if SumTotal can't measure that on it's own, would I have to create a fake quiz question or hot button for it to work?

Thanks for the help.

On SumTotal with one of my (very big) clients. SCORM (esp. SCORM 2004) has had some "challenges" in recording to SumTotal.

When we experienced issues with SCORM 1.25, here's how we handled it>
1. Publish your SCORM course
2. Upload it to any other available SCORM-compliant LMS (Moodle, or any other trial version)
3. Ensure asset passes SCORM test from ADLNET
4. Provide all data to SumTotal to show "it's compliant per ADLNET" and "works in other SCORM-compliant LMS" (and if you pick a freebie, that's showing that you're paying for what you could be getting free).

Generally, at this point, they need to make adjustments for their LMS to "play nice" per SCORM standards (or specifically direct you to adjustments to be made in your tool of choice, but I find this is uncommon).

Feel free to reach out for a chat- I've seen issues like this several times- may be able to give you some ideas.

There are a number of settings in Captivate and Articulate that need to be set up just right to work with any LMS. My latest gig involving Articulate was with Learn.com, and the solution to the integration issue was actually a matter of course design. There is a setting for the number of slides that the user must view in order to get credit for the course, and with the linking capability inside of PowerPoint, they (the users) were skipping around and not meeting the minimum requirement. We found this out when we set the minimum to 1 page. Sometimes you just have to experiment around to get more info to draw conclusions.

I can't speak specifically to SumTotal (sounds like Mr. Glow has), but the SCORM standard is somewhat vague and allows for different interpretations. For example, some tools send "complete" when finished, when an LMS is looking for "completed".
