Hello,

I am a former high school orchestra director. I have my master's degree in ed with a concentration in instructional technology. I am an instructional designer in the Tampa area.

The ability to write objectives clearly and understand how to logically organize learning material is invaluable in this field. You probably accomplished that many times as a teacher.

Getting your master's degree is a great idea. You may be able to do some consulting on the side while you complete your degree.

I find the intellectual stimulation exciting. I enjoyed my 12 years in the PA public school system, but being an instructional designer as a second career is something I am very happy to be doing.

Update!

Recently, I actually landed a job as a content developer at a small company that makes tech training materials (for the education and corporate markets)! I'm very excited. Thanks to all who gave advice or comments. I hope I will catch on to more of what you guys are talking about on here! Smiler
