Hello all,

Just wanted to jump in on this thread again. I was looking for an online Master's program and found out about Boise State from this thread. I am SO glad that's where I decided to pursue my degree.

Boise State is truly a great program - I'm learning an unbelievable amount that is very applicable to the real business world. The instructors, students, and staff have all been wonderful. I just can't say enough good things about their program.

For me, it came down to Capella vs. Boise. In the end, I chose Boise because of its reputation as a brick and mortar school, the tuition being a lot less, and the feedback I heard from past Master's students who told me it's important to go for a program that's focused on industry, not education (unless, of course, you want to be in education).

Anyway, just wanted to share in case this helps someone else out there.

Is there any data on how major employers view online Masters and PhD programs? My experience has not been positive in this respect. I would like to complete an online PhD program due to career/travel constraints, but I am concerned about making an investment that will not be recognized in the marketplace as credible.

Hello,

If you want to complete an masters or a Ph.D take my advice stay as far away from Capella as possible. They will bleed you dry and your degree will be worthless. Stick with a brick and mortar institution.

Hello,

Although I'm not personally familiar with online graduate programs, I can offer a possible solution to your problem.

I am enrolled in the Master of Education, Executive Human Resources Development program at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. However, I live more than 500 miles away in South Carolina. I am able to do this because the program is a cohort (wonderful approach) program that meets 1-2 weekends a month over 21 months. This allows me a great deal of freedom to complete my projects when I have the time available and I have come to really enjoy the insight and feedback I gain during the weekends my cohort meets. As far as I know, my situation is not unique, as this program has had commuters from as far away as Costa Rica.

Good luck with your search, Linda!
