My organization is new to this area and I am researching different LMS, LCMS and Rapid e-Learning tools. Do all Rapid e-Learning tools come with a LMS?

Is there a reference tool that would give me a better explaination of the differnt LMS systems etc?

Not all Rapid E-Learning tools come with an LMS, but usually are AICC or SCORM compliant so they can interface to one.

You can check out the Brandon Hall web site for their LMS comparison tool and LMS reviews.

Hi Mary,

Some tools associated with rapid e-learning are indeed available without buying an LMS, e.g. authoring systems to design and develop courses. While Brandon Hall has some good information, beware of taking all their advice to heart. I recently tried one of their reports on e-learning and found a number of things with which I disagreed based on experience, including recommendations for buying an authoring system. If you're looking for an example of an LMS you can play with, try Moodle. It's called a CMS (Course Management System) but is essentially an LMS. It's free and easily downloadable to a server or desktop. There's a good manual also downloadable you can use to get started. You can then check out the features of Moodle and compare them with other LMS. Moodle itself works quite well. The Moodle site is at http://moodle.org/

Cheers,

Jean-Marc

Mary, I am happy to send you what I have, a personal review of some LMS's (I created it for others but I can share with you) and I have a complied list of LMS features and functions that I can send you. You can use it as a "wish list", or what ever.. steve scase20@juno.com
