I have both Macromedia Captivate and Adobe Captivate 2. The bugs existed in Macromedia's version and when Adobe bought Macromedia, they didn't bother to check or fix the bugs. In my experience, the problems arise when trying to save to the standalone executable version. I find the shockwave version works much better. My biggest peave is that you can't link to a PDF unless it is save on a server and use the server address. It is suppose to, but it doesn't. For the most part, I've been able to work around the bugs (yes, they tech people either know or are surprised). Despite the few bugs, I use Captivate 2 religiously. I notice that a lot of others use it as well.

Captivate has more features including a simulation option. I evaluated both and went with Captivate mainly because it had more features and seemed to be more "professional". I found it easy to use.

I have found some "buggyness" with captivate, but I feel the benefits far out weigh the drawbacks. One thing that I noticed is that it seems that if you don't save but just publish, you could run into issues. But it is very powerful for what it is and goes way beyond simply capturing screens....
