How much time should does it normally take for a learner to "go through" an e-learning screen? I realize there differences according to the type of interaction. However, what are people using as an average for development purposes?
Thanks!! |

This is a very common question most people new to eLearning ask. Good question!
From my experience, it really depends on how the training program is developed. For example, you could have a Flash movie/animation embedded on an HTML screen (1 screen) and it could play for a few minutes or longer. On the other hand, you could have another screen that has just a few lines of text, which might take the average learner 30 seconds or so to read. The rule of thumb is that a 1 eHour web-based training course has approximately 60 screens on average. Each screen developed under this standard should take approx. 60 seconds for the learner to complete. Hope this helps! Jason eZinteractions ezinteractions@yahoo.com |

Hi Cade:
I am curious as to how you intend to apply this “average user screen time”. Please elucidate. Cj |

I concur with Jason. The number we use is an average of 60 seconds a screen, some longer if activities are invcolved, but 60 seconds is my operating standard.
