Hi All,

I sit on a training team at a large university that has dived headfirst into the world of web-based training. Unfortunately, much of the on-line classes we developed are little better than power-point presentations on the web. Somewhat late, we’ve come to the realization that there’s a lot more to e-learning than just making slides available on-line. Since the various departments here operate pretty much independently, our job as a team is to convince them that what we’re doing now needs change (ie., there is no mandate from above to make our web-based training truly “learner-centered” – we have to make a sales pitch to convince folks).

Can anyone recommend a speaker we might bring to campus who over the course of a one or two-day workshop would be able to explain the correct way to approach an e-learning program?

Thanks!

Doug

Actually I have a handful of friends who might help, but you may want to select based on what you want covered:
For Example I could connect you with the Author of Blended Learning (a comp review of how to make eLearning work for you)
Or one of the most engaging and knowledgeable eLearning consultants I know who has pushed the envelope on how to design and use eLearning.
Or for a more practical presentation, I know one of the leading US custom content developing companies and thier president would be willing to share his experience and ideas.
Or if what you really need is a practical view of what is the fastest and easiest tools and techniques to quickly create eLearning I could get the best in that area to speak to you abouthis experiences.
Or lastly if you are looking for a Industry view, I know a number of eLearning practioners who are in various companies (DIRECTV, Humana, Aetna, etc) who are more than happy to share thier expertice.
So if any of this appeals to you email me at scase20@juno.com and I will make the introductions and you can take it from there.. steve

It sounds like your university could use some guidance in both how to plan for a successful e-learning system (admin., student support, faculty support, technical services, etc.) as well as an introduction to some basic instructional design techniques for e-learning. There are a fair number of people out there that could be of value and some of the one's above may be helpful. If you are looking for another academic I would be glad to talk with you more about the issues and then give you some recommendations. Some elements of these are ones that I research and teach on at my university, but there are other professors around the country that I would likely recommend for other aspects of the e-learning. If you are still looking, you can drop me a note at rwatkins@email.com

Good luck.
