I'm trying to find information and/or best practices for helping companies create revenue generating eLearning programs. What I'd really like to know is if it's common for an eLearning development company to ask for a share/percentage of the revenues?

For example, would it be ok for an eLearning development company to charge X dollars to develop the eLearning program and also ask for a small share/percentage of all revenues?

Any research, best practices, models, etc. on how to negotiate something like this?
