We are a medium size company with approx. 400 employees within our U.S. based locations. I am interested in suggestions for the best approach in selecting a good starter LMS. We don't necessarily need all of the bells and whistles at this stage, but may want them in the future. I appreciate any suggestions for the best way to approach the selection process!

It is really important to have an impartial selection process that focuses on your specific business requirements and not biased by a vendor. This Chief Learning Officer article highlights the importance of business requirements for the LMS: http://www.clomedia.com/featur...nuary/1687/index.php

I believe that Brandon Hall and Bersin & Associates have a service they provide in selecting a LMS. I have a set process that I developed some time ago with templates and a project plan. You can read more about it at:

Thanks!

Hi, it is worth looking at Moodle, the open source LMS used by 25% of small companies in the US according to Elearning Guild. See our review here http://www.kineo.com/free-tool...your-free-lms-2.html and see the elearning guild review of LMSs http://www.elearningguild.com/...fm?selection=doc.769
Good luck

First a comment on Moodle.. having lived through this "Free" is not really free.. although it seems like a great idea, in fact you will likely pay as much or more than if you bought an LMS. My suggestion for a great way to start is the LMS KnowledgeBase2009 http://www.brandon-hall.com/pu...ns/lmskb/lmskb.shtml
This is a way to put in your requirements, needs and wants and let the on line tool search 92+ LMS's and 5000 pages of data and tell you the short list of who you should consider. my two cents.. steve
