We are currently investigating the use of an LMS

Question:
For those using an LMS (Learning Management System):
How do you run the system?

Choices:
Hosted
Run on own server

Sometimes the term LMS is applied to LCMS (a Learning Content Mangagement System; e.g. aTutor or Moodle). Is this poll about LMSs or LCMSs?

Wanted to post a reply in addition to voting.

Just wanted to note a trend I have seen with several organizations.

Hosted- the vendor knows the software and the server administration to best support it. One stop shopping.

Owned- vendor software running on a company box- requires a lot of coordination. When issues occur (inevitably) the time to get the teams working together can slow response. And, if there is not a strong partnership, or firewall/security setup that the vendor can't really "see into" your system, if can create major issues and devolve into accusations (it's not our software, but how you set up your box to run it).

Obviously, suggesting "hosted" unless you really have a crack team and a very strong partnership with the vendor.
