Hi,
I work in a not-for-profit human service organization that does not have a training budget or a lot of money, but would love to utilize some type of e-learning for employees that work at multiple sites and at different times. We also have multiple programs that require different trainings.

Where is the best place to start? Any website recommendations to get me going?

Please and thank you!

I think we may be able to help you.

We just completed a "Leadership Development Blueprint" guide that I'll send if you'll contact me since it's too big to attach here.

We designed it for employers like banks, retail chains, (and like you sound) with a few employees at each of many sites and it's hard to get them into a conventional training setting.

It may not meet every need but can get you started. Also, look at our series of articles on Do It Yourself Workforce Development that may be useful, too.http://www.outsourcetraining.biz/outsourcetraining.html#diywd

billie310, sorry I can not figure out what you are asking? Are you asking for guidance as to where to go get free eLearning? No training budget, nor a lot of money.. but you want to use eLearning?
There are ways to start will little costs (say $30k per year) but none that I know are free (The open source ones that seem free actually cost a lot). Can you give more info? steve

Hi Steve,
Sorry, I was not clear. I am actually looking for information as to how to even get started with e-learning. The other dilemma is that since my agency is a human service agency and working with disabled adults, the staff already say that there is too much paperwork/time on the computer spent that is taking time away from working with the consumers.

How could we get staffed trained that was efficient and economical so that staff do not feel as if more time is spent on the computer?

Does this help?

Thanks,
Billie310

Billie,

What about providing training information through a podcast or vodcast? This is a very inexpensive way to get information out to the consumers and you don't have to have them sit in front of a computer. Podcasts and vodcasts can be downloaded on an as needed basis and played on iPods, cell phones, computers and nearly any other mobile device. This would also allow your employees to listen and view this information on their own time. For example, during commutes to and from work or at home at night or while exercising. As long as you use the MP3 format for audio and the MP4 format for video, you should be fine.

Let me know if this makes sense to you. Feel free to call or email me with any questions.

John
