We are looking to purchase an LMS and web-authoring tool this year. We've met with VCampus and Net Dimensions so far for the LMS. Any feedback on either of these companies? Web-authoring tools, we've heard a lot about, and VCampus even recommended Articulate. Any other suggestions or comments on Articulate? This appears to have the most use-able features at a reasonable price. We definitely don't need all the bells and whistles, but in a technology field, need to bump up from the recordings on Live Meeting for all of our "online" training content!

Thanks!

I have been following LMS vendors since they began, and can give you some suggestions if you want to send me a bit more about what you want. As far as the 3 mentioned a friend of mine just shifted off VCampus because of customer service issues and an outage (LMS off line) for 4 days, Net Dimensions is too new in the Norh American market to develop an opinion, but I have seen too many European platform try and enter the NA market, and fail. the culture difference seems to be the barrier and in the end they seem to not be able to flex to meet the NA customer needs, learn.com has a pricing structure which will eventually cost a fortune.. every thing after you are a customer seesm to a charge. These are my unqualified personal views..
Web Development tools? My advise is they MUST be as easy to use as PowerPoint, MUST allow for you to store and re-use the assest (not the entire module) inexpensive, and of SCORM compliant. Again I know the tools and would be pleased to share what I know.. email me at scase20@juno.com if talking would help.. steve

Hello,

I am very intrigued by your comments regarding LMSs. My organization is currently seeking an LMS that is low cost and offers:

Reporting capability
Content Integration
Assessment authoring and tracking
SCORM and AICC compliant
Integration with Documentum
Supports Blended Learning

You mentioned that the pricing structure for Learn.com has the potential to become high over time. I have not seen anything regarding their hosting fees or liscencing agreements. The features of this system are very attactive and it appears that this system is extremly popular with other organizations. Do you mind providing me with some information about this pricing structure and what the pitfalls are?

I would also love to hear what LMS you recommend for small to medium size implementation.

Best Regards,

As far as authoring tools go, I would also suggest something that is easy to use and template based (although they do have their shortcomings) - something like Outstart Trainer or Lectora. Quick to learn: 1-2 weeks.

As far as an LMS goes, you may want to look at Plateau, it also has a Performance management module that integrates with the learning modules and fully supports competency models.

It can integrate with other corp systems like SAP, is fully SCORM and AICC compliant, delivers and tracks eLearning content and can also be used for classroom training and scheduling - for the blend.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks
Nicolene

Nissa, I would be happy to provide as much of my personal opinion as you would like. email me at scase20@juno.com.
I have a couple of "papers" I have done for others. Please note they are my personal view built fom 30 years expereince, and not a professional view. But then unlike the "research firms" I do not accept fees to influence my opinion. Happy to help how ever I can.. steve
