This is probably a very basic question but...
We're using Captivate to develop our trainings. Although our organization does not require it, I would like to know things such as: -how many times a certain page has been viewed in a given period, such as a month -how many unique visitors there are to a page -how long viewers spend on a given page/whether there are pages that the majority of viewers spend a long time on -whether learners get to a certain point in an optional training and then abandon the training -how learners answer quiz questions (such as whether a majority of them are giving the same wrong answer to a given question) I've not been asked to provide data like this for our organization which is new to e-learning, although I did need to provide indepth data while at other organizations that did not, at the time, use e-learning. I see a lot about LMSs but am just not clear whether we need an LMS in order to obtain this type of data. I know the amount of money we have available to spend is quite limited and at the moment our e-learning offerings are limited to a small group, although there's reason to suppose this will not be the case in future years. Paying a monthly fee is quite likely out of the question for us for now. Still, I'd like the data for purposes of improving instruction. We have Captivate and I am not clear whether we need anything else and/or whether there might be options within our price range for collecting data that, at present, I may be the only one who wants. Can anybody help? As always, thanks to all for your thoughts. |

Wow, seems as though I have heard these words before. I am dealing with my own problems with Lectora, our authoring tool. Then, we incorporated the GSPC into our training. (Global Standards for Plastics Certification)It came with the CourseWorks platform and has all of these types of reporting tools included in the designed software. Seems as though it must be somehow programmed into the platform or created into the deliverable. I am now working on this so if you find out before I do let me know.

Hi Kathy,
We use google analytics for our Moodle website, it gives you a whole lot of data about hits to your website. It is a start, and it is free. I am also looking at getting more registration data from our website, Moodle might have that build in, I need to talk to our LMS administrator. A few ways you can get at it. LMS is one way. Putting some additional web services tools around the site/area hosting the content is another. Questionmark (and I am sure some other assessment tools) can report on embedded content. Admittedly, the data in QM takes a bit of getting used to (parses the data by computer logic, not human logic), but all the data is there.

Many ways you can do this. Years back I created a wrapper using ASP, connected to a simple dbf table to track the page visits and tracking the quiz answers. You can use Java to do the same or some other web programming languages.
Any tool that supports SCORM/AICC can easily do this. My suggestion is to explore some readymade tools and twick it to get the result you want. Good Luck. Chet Sapovadia |
