Our organization is exploring the virtual classroom as an alternative delivery method to increase accessibility and save on travel expenses. What are the essential skills that virtual instructors should have to deliver synchronous training in the virtual classroom?

Before we get into what an online instructor needs to know, I have one question for you. If you are exploring virtual classrooms why have you already decided on synchronous delivery? Why not asynchronous or a blend of the two?

A common mistake is to deliver ILT in a virtual environment with no changes. The virtual world is different and a talking voice with slides will not have the same impact as a talking person in a room with slides.

If your firm wants to investigate the savings that virtual delivery can bring then a full review of content and optimum delivery should be undertaken.
