Hello All-

I'm looking for a template to use for the "content" design of a elearning course around decision making and troubleshooting.

I have never designed any elearning courses so I'm looking for something that will help me organize my sequence and flow and also be easy to hand-off to the elearning team for creation in the correct software.

I have reached out to this group for ideas of templates however most of them design as they build and didn't have anything helpful for a new designer.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Kind Regards--
Heather

Good instructional design is good instructional design. Start with that - not with the delivery mode.

P.S. I have a great camera. Doesn't make me Ansel Adams...doesn't even make me eligible for a staff photographer job at my local community newspaper...

Heather - If I am understanding you correctly, you are the Subject Matter Expert being asked to provide content to the elearning team. It's not clear to me whether the elearning team includes the instructional designer or if it only includes developers.

As an instructional designer and elearning developer, I mostly like to see SMEs chunk, structure and sequence their content. This can be done in a simple Word document. Sometimes, a powerpoint with notes is really helpful. I generally do not like for them to try to design interactions or spend a lot of time trying to create a course. Although there are always exceptions.

It is more important that the SME provide details on the target audience, the relevance of the training and the primary objectives. Also, I have really appreciated it when the SME(s) tell me what they have found has worked in the past. Did a specific graphic produce an "Aha!" moment for learners? Did real case examples in a classroom setting work well?

All that being said, I have had some talented SMEs use a three-column landscape Word document (Text, Graphics, Notes/Interaction) successfully. But this has been rare.
