I am new to the elearning & ID world. I was wondering what the preferred method is for onscreen text and audio? We have very heavy content with not a lot of relevant images. Any advice or suggestions? The current elearning seems to match up the audio with onscreen bullets.
Thank you.

Do you want best practices for learning, or do you want to know what people would choose to do if forced within the constraints of your current instructional design?

The practice of reading text aloud to the learner, while common, isn't supported by research and can actually hurt learning.

You might find some useful information in this thread about the same topic:

There was also discussion about this in response to a post on my blog:

Since your content is heavy, it might help to consider ways you can break it up into different delivery methods, rather than trying to put it all in an online course.

For example, you could put the more painful details in job aids or some other performance support system, then use an online or face-to-face course to introduce the basic concepts and show people how to use the job aids.

You might be able to create some graphics to show the structure of the content. Some ideas could be a flowchart showing a process or a Venn diagram showing how ideas or responsibilities overlap. Then, if you use the graphic in an online course, you could use audio to explain it.

You need to consider the Americans With Disabilities Act. If you provide narration on screen you need to accommodate those who may be hard of hearing.

At my firm we present some material on screen and augment it with narration. That narration is available in a script box for those with hearing impairments.

Just a few thoughts on the subject.

Thank you for the information.

I am looking for basic concepts.

Also, the content is very text heavy and in some cases does not always have an image that is applicable to the content. I do not really know how to develop in this case.

Thanks again. Any information will be useful.
