When I import a PowerPoint into Captivate it groups the different animations into one animation. For instance if I have 3 fly in animations for 3 different line of text, when imported into captivate it groups all 3 fly ins as one animation. This doesn't allow me to edit the animations time, b/c they are all grouped in that one and will fly in one right after another. Is there away to import the powerpoint slides where the animations are seperated? For instance in Articulate you can record the audio based on animation changes within the slide. What am I doing wrong or is this a limitation within Captivate? Thank you.

Sorry, no ideas on your problem.... but I'd suggest going to the Captivate support page:
http://www.adobe.com/support/captivate/

Or the Captivate developer center page:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/captivate/

Perhaps someone on the Captivate forum will have an answer for you.

I would say the limitation is in PowerPoint and I would reevaluate why anyone is having anyone convert powerpoint files into captivate.

PowerPoint is a tool that was created to make it easier to have visual slides one can use to support a presentation. This is/was a great relief to those of us who used to have to use overhead transparencies. The program has gotten easier to use over the years with more bells and whistles, but the bottom line is that it is still just a tool to create presentation slides.

Online delivery of content, for one.

And Captivate is a tool that takes that to the next level with regard to online learning, and even instructor-led training. And the Flash file format is superior to the native PPT format for many applications. Captivate has many versatile uses. And, PPT is so much more than a slide presentation tool. The ability to convert PPT content into Flash gives you added power and flexibility.

The question is deeper than that, Amy.

Why are people still delivering content, rather than learning?

And if one needs others to read content, why is one using powerpoint slides (or any kind of slides) to deliver said reading material?

Captivate should be used to capture things one can actually do online - like learn how to use Excel.

And finally, visual support is only one portion of a learning experience. Slapping fancy animated slides on a web site does not online learning make.
