I was hired 10 months ago as a trainer/instructional designer for a small publishing company. My focus was to be on developing e-learning courses for our customers using Captivate. However, in my short term here, it has become apparent that the Training Group did not conduct any type of project plan for rolling our e-learning (no requirements analysis, no implementation plan, no IT buy-in, etc). As incredulous as it sounds, they never determined how these e-learning files were to be hosted and delivered to the customer. I believe that they simply bought a copy of Captivate and came up with a list of courses and that was the extent of their planning
Now I am panicking – it’s pretty hard to justify my existence here when I can’t deliver any e-learning courses. So I am scrambling to find a way to host these files. I know that researching LM sytems can be a lengthly and time consuming process, and am looking for any guidance that you folks can provide. Many thanks! |

If I were in your shoes, I'd go to a site offering Moodle hosting (many are inexpensive), set up some accounts, upload some courses and offer the courses.

Coggno is one inexpensive e-learning platform that offers quick and simple course uploading. On their site you can take video tours of their course developing tools to see if they offer the kinds of functions your courses require. The system is simple but very robust, equipped with some very nice features which are more than sufficient for many course developers' needs.
Here's their website: http://www.coggno.com/home Good luck! |

Hi Diana,
Do not panic, you can have a hosted LMS setup quickly and cost effectively. Moodle is an open source LMS that is highly regarded and well used worldwide from small business to large organisations such as the UK's Open University whose Moodle site handles over 400,000 users. It is a scalable, mature and reliable system. If you have the expertise and IT resources then you can download it for free and have a fully functional LMS up and running quickly. You will need some basic CSS expertise to reskin it for your organisation's branding / look and feel. Alternatively you can sign up for a hosted Moodle LMS, from a supplier such as ourselves who can reskin it for you and handle the setup, configuration and maintenance. For a small business this could be achieved for a low cost. Pls don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss further. Kind regards, Mark |
