I am looking to purchase translation software (text to text and/or text to voice). I am interested in the following languages: Hebrew, Spanish, Mandarian, and Vietnamese.
Hello Jaggz, there is currently no reliable software for text or voice translation. There are software packages that support translators with vocabulary information and can automate reptitive work (such as repeated use of the same phrase.) If you want your audience to understand your message, you cannot rely on software. You need a real, live translator whose native language is the target language. So you need to build that into your training budget. Depending on the language, you can expect to spend 9-15 cents per word. If someone offers to do it for less, be very suspicious. The company is probably farming it out to someone who is not a native speaker of English or the target language.
Disclaimer: my husband is a translator, and he deals with these issues all the time...cleaning up messes that were created when someone tried to use software to translate a document. Mostly he has to start from scratch as the document he gets is full of errors and just plain nonsense.
