Who coined the phrase "blended learning?" If anyone can provide who coined the phrase, the first definition, and a citation, I would appreciate it. A colleague is giving a presentation tomorrow afternoon. Thanks!

Intuition tells me that it's not a phrase that was coined by any individual, but rather a natural combination of words that became a buzz-phrase and packaged/marketed by folks like those who run ASTD, even though teachers have been blending modes of delivery for centuries.

If one is giving a presentation about the concept, one would do well to focus on the fact that it's not a new concept at all. I doubt that its important to attribute the buzz-phrase to a particular individual, as whoever the culprit was, he/she certainly didn't invent the concept.

Hi, I believe no one actually coined 'blended learning' - but this book by Kaye Thorne, "Blended Learning: How to Integrate Online and Traditional Learning", actually gives us pretty good insight on how the principles of blended learning.

Talking about 'blended learning', I'm feel that it's the best means for a good majority who are not ready to go 100% elearning.

I didn't realize that anyone in the training and development industry advocated doing 100% e-learning - now or in the future. I for one hope that we never go even close to 100% e-learning.

Learning should always be blended... with discussion, facilitation, practice, etc... so, in essence, you are right - that we may not see a 100% adoption of elearning. I have been telling my daughter that when she enters university five years from now, much of the learning will be done the 'e' way; but she will still have to get down to the physical campus for discussion, tutorial, socialisation, etc.
