I'm curious to know if anybody else hates to see the demise of Authorware. While there are several in my department that develop eLearning, I'm the only one that knows Authorware, with everybody else using Captivate. So in order to ensure anyone on the team can update the material, I use Captivate as well.
It makes more sense to use Captivate, but I love working with Authorware |

Absolutely. Sad. Depressing. Shameful.
The best eLearning tool, neglected to obscurity. Like letting a Lamborghini rust away in the garage... Probably not worh lamenting, but lament a bit I do. If only's... I've yet to see a tool that is near as capable and fast. Ah well. Maybe Adobe will release it someday, Allen Interactions can buy it back, update, and we'll all have a premiere tool again. My fingers are crossed but my hopes aren't high. And I never did get to attend a TAAC. CM |

Is Lectora as robust as Authorware. I currently have Captivate and need something delivering a more polished end product in terms of 3D renderings and animations. Captivate seems to have too many bugs and huge file sizes.
I'd be using this software not just for e-learning but for sales presentations to customers. Any suggested software would be appreciated. |

Well, I am a Lectora expert and I would say No, it is not as robust as Authorware. It is far better than Articulate. It essentially hosts images and animations, text, graphics. You lay the stuff out but have little control over changing images and animations. That is done in the authoring tool it came from.
Lectora has a free 14 day trial and I would be glad to help you with any simple tests you want to run. ben pitman 678-571-4179 ben.pitman@eproficiency.com |

Thanks Dr. Lectora for your reply - it's refreshing to see a pro be open about limitations. I've not worked with Lectora much at all but, on the surface it seems very Authorware-like but could go further!
Becky - another to look at is Xerte: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/xerte/ I've not yet had a chance to play with this but am eager to do so. It's a lot like Authorware but developed in Flash, so it outputs to SWF (which was ultimately one of Authorware's major failings). Otherwise, if I had to find a replacement for Authorware and Lectora, Xerte, and Flash itself wouldn't do - I'd probably just look at something like (and it pains me to say this) Visual Basic! CM |
