Hi There!
I have a team of trainers that are skilled at creating classroom training, which has been the focus of our group until just recently. In prior years, we have not had a demand for online training, as we were only training people in the building. Well, things change and here we are in a situation where we have a full catalog of classroom training but need to start delivering them online.

The online class will also be synchronous, but I am looking for some resources (tips and tricks) or guidance on how to take classroom content and make it into eLearning without having to reinvent the wheel. Can it be that easy? :-)

The sessions include training on internal systems as well as soft skill training.

Thanks!

I recommend Jennifer Hofmann's books:

The Synchronous Trainer's Survival Guide (facilitating)
Live & Online! (designing)

Also, Ruth Clark's book:
The New Virtual Classroom

Jennifer Hofmann's company (InSync Training) offers courses you can take on how to be a synchronous facilitator, how to design online, etc. There are also some free monthly live/interactive seminars available.

I highly recommend these courses. You want your learners and your trainers to have a good experience, and there are some different skills needed to design for and deliver in this environment.

CTYMom,

I have been using technology for approximately five years for educational purposes. You might want to take a look at Elluminate or Skype software. They both allow you to present live training (walk through your PPT presentations, use whiteboard...), record the live training(so trainees can have a learning resource), conduct follow-up meetings, evaluations, etc.

Tips
1. An orientation that introduces participants (trainer should receive this training first) to the software is important.

2. Tone is important in this environment. You might want to consider conducting training that helps trainers understand how to communication in this environment.

3. Course management is important too. You will have differing skill and knowledge levels in the class, so it is important that the instructors understands how to maintain control of the class.

4. Understanding how to incorporate learning resources and aids that will address the different learning styles, etc. is essential.

Just a copy of tips.

Thanks for the references and tips! We are not allowed to use SKYPE as it causes issues with our internal network. We will most likely be using Live Meeting. I will check out Elluminate though!

My primary concern is that we are doing a good job of taking the existing content and adjusting it so that it will work well in an online format.

It's exciting to try something new (well - new to us), but I want to avoid going down the wrong "bunny trail."

Thanks All!
