Hi there,
Does anyone know of any standards or best practices for Portal Naming Conventions in regards to the Course ID? More than just keeping it unique and the formatting consistent? Are there pros and cons to how many characters there should be, any other recommendations? Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
I don't think there are any standards. It depends on how many courses you have and how you are organizing them into categories. If you have, say, a series of health and safety courses, you might start them with HealthSafety and then give yourself plenty of room for thousands for courses. Also, you might consider reserving higher numbers for more advanced courses. So your basic first aid course might be HealthSafety0000101, and your more advanced one might be HealthSafety0000901, for example. Or you could put HS (health and safety) at the front and have for example HSFireSafety0000101. It's really what makes sense for your organization, considering how learners search for courses, and how the LMS works with these ID's and reports. You may check character limits on reports, for example. Sheldon Murphy Solid State Learning www.sslearn.com |
