Hi,

I manage training for a national homebuilder with 500-1000 employees. We implemented an LMS a few years ago but have primarily used it to author and deliver our own custom elearning as well as track training delivered by outside vendors (both ILT and WBT).

I'm interested in learning more about how we can purchase off-the-shelf elearning (soft skills and computer desktop application skills) to host within our LMS. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions on vendors/suppliers who provide these courses for self-hosted LMS solutions.

(I've looked at SkillSoft, ElementK and several other companies but it seems as though they require a link between our LMS and their sites. We're interested in physically hosting a few fundamental courses in our actual LMS so we can start building our library.)

Thank you in advance.

When OTS content vendors or developers have you point to their servers they are mostly protecting their intellectual property from being copied or that of the partners they represent. Why would this option not work for you? Why the need to have the courses phisically uploaded to your servers?

We've worked with Skillsoft before and they allowed us to load their courses on our server. Most vendors have this as an option because of company firewall issues. You mention that "it seems" that they require a link. I would recommend double-checking this. Perhaps they insist on a volume purchase before they let you do that? If that's the case, maybe working with some of the smaller players would be better.

A couple of thoughts...

I would recommend the option for the link between the vendor and your site for a couple of reasons. First, you ensure that you are accessing the most current version of the course and will automatically receive any updates. Secondly, you are not using up as much valuable space on your LMS.

Mindleaders has a very comprehensive offering at a great value.

Also, have you contacted your LMS provider? They may have existing partnerships with course vendors, making your purchase/implementation smoother.
