Has anyone out there had experience with both Element K and Learn.com from an LMS admin perspective? If you have, would you mind sharing your opinions about the differences between the two?

I'm hoping to get your ideas on what Element K does or has that is better than Learn.com as well as what Learn.com does or has that is better than Element K.

If you are aware of pitfalls I would love to hear those, too.

Thanks!

From and administrator standpoint I believe that the biggest difference lies with the independence that you will have from the vendor to adapt the LMS to your current and future needs. Here's the topic of Configurability vs Customization, what do you prefer? If you want to be able to configure and make the changes to your LMS without getting the vendor involved then Learn.com is recommended. However if you want the customizations to be performed by your vendor and not you then EK would be a better choice. The latter though implies having to pay EK for professional services when you need customizations. You may want to take that into account. Without knowing what you want the LMS for it's a little difficult to give you further advice. I hope this helps.

Thank you, Czrrin, for your response. I think I prefer to do the customization, but I want plenty of training and support when I need it so that I can do it myself.

We are currently using Element K, but not the Enterprise version, so it doesn't have the Certifiacation module, which would allow us to do more of what we want. I'm trying to decide if I want to upgrade EK or move to Learn.com.

We need an LMS that can deliver online content such as self-paced courses, but also allow us to assign individual assignments or specific homework for online courses to ensure learners actually apply what they learned. We need tracking of both online and offline learning, and it would be a big bonus if webinars could also be tracked by attendance, length of connection, and some sort of acknowledgment or assessment.

We want to develop learning paths by job type and have them pre-set so that if I add a new learner I can assign one development plan that will have multiple courses and assignments built in, saving me many, many steps in assigning them individually as I have to do now.

Does that help clarify?

WLPGal,

Thanks for the clarification. My experience is that learning paths start with minimum requirements and as soon as they are implemented you want more control. This extra level of control comes in the form of sequencing, pre-requisites, a combination of non-required and required courses, some with sequencing and some without. You will need to ask each vendor if they have the capability to manage all these scenarios so the functionality is available when you request it.
If you want to use the industry analysts input on the extended and advanced functionality that you require my thinking is that they will all agree that the Learn.com system is better suited to your needs. As I study their reports I do not see that EK's solution has a high relevance in the LMS space.
I hope this helps.

Yes, it does. That is what I suspected. Thanks again, Czrrin.
